  Tiene un momento tan absolutamente mágico al final que, aunque la película no me estaba entusiasmando, me ha hecho replanteármela, pensarla en perspectiva y darme cuenta de lo buena que era. El tema no me interesaba demasiado, estoy un poco saturado de películas sobre el paso a la edad madura y sobre relaciones paternofiliales conflictivas. Tampoco la idea del choque entre el mundo masculino y el mundo femenino en términos absolutos, con un divorcio de fondo y una cuestión de cuidados. Pero 'Tengo sueños eléctricos' hace algo más complicado que eso para tratar la naturaleza perversa del cariño que puede hacer percibir de manera razonablemente ambigua a un tío que sabes que es la mierda y que puede ser tierno al mismo tiempo, de forma nada excluyente. Todo lo concentra admirablemente en ese momento mágico al que me refiero, esa mirada cómplice en un contexto imposible. Un momento así solo se consigue en una película secretamente grande.

  An engrossing, troubling take on the coming-of-age story from Costa Rican auteur Valentina Maurel. Her 16-year-old protagonist, Eva, has eyes that reveal depths of hurt and desire. In contrast to the adult characters, her silences can seem like mature poise; more likely, they’re born of confusion. Her artist parents, now separated, can be petty, selfish, self-destructive, and resentful. Those in her father’s poetry workshop are frequently clouded by drugs and liquor.

  “She’s possessed by the same demon”
  As soon as I heard that line I felt the whole film fall into place before it even started. For years I felt unable to put anger aside, filled with a fury that had no backing. I felt my existence was created out of hatred. Similar to the idea that: living with an angry man means you will always live with one and, if not, you create one inside of you. I contained a masculine rage throughout my childhood. He still lives both physically and mentally and I am learning and I am growing.

  it’s depressing, it’s uncomfortable, it’s polarizing, but at last, it’s incredibly real.

  i don’t think this one is for everyone, tho. you’ve got to live through a set of experiences and understand the intricacies of a whole culture before getting to connect with the quiet story telling that this movie has going on.

  it’s been months since the last time i related so deeply with a character like i did with Eva, and maybe that’s why i’m so captivated by this movie and for other people it won’t hit as deep as it did me, but that’s ok, because some movies are personal.

  Coming of age un tanto violento pero verosimil con algunas realidades costarricenses. Lo bueno de Maurel es que se atreve a cosas que cuesta ver en nuestro cine, esto no es solo el retrato de una familia disfuncional, es el retrato de una Costa Rica patriarcal y violenta que vive bajo la farsa de ser el país más feliz del mundo.
